Hayes Sprayers - 12 Months On
In April 2007, it had been a year since we started selling Hayes Sprayers. To
see how they went and to get an owner's opinion after the first season, we
caught up with the Finlay Family from Morven, who ordered one of our first
Hayes Sprayers.
Simon Finlay, who did most of the spraying last season with the Hayes and covered over 10,000 acres answers our questions:
Q: How did you find the overall performance of the sprayer last year?
Honestly, it was unreal. Everything is so easy and simple, I love the tap set-up which is very easy to follow. The taps on the right hand side of the pump are suction, and pressure on the left hand side. I reckon you need to have owned a Hardi or Goldacres Sprayer to appreciate the simplicity of the Hayes, compared to how complicated the others are. My younger brother James is starting to take on some of the spraying and having that set up makes things easier when showing him the ropes.
Q: How did you like the TeeJet 844E Controller?
Yeah great, we've had one before on the previous sprayer so it was easy. Even Dad handles it no worries.
Q: How do you find the ride of the boom and trailer?
Both excellent, the boom is very stable, even when cornering fast. The trailer ride is also very smooth, we actually left a shifter sitting on the pull before and went flying around the paddock at 20km/h before we realised we'd left it there - it was still there and only moved about 2cm!
Q: What do you think of the hydrualic hypro pump against previous PTO diaphragm pumps?
The pump is awesome! It's one of the best features, filling time is now heaps quicker using it. I wouldn't have thought about using a hypro before, but now i wouldn't even think of NOT having one!
Q: What other features do you like?
To decontaminate this sprayer is so easy, I just hook the pressure pump up to the suction side of the hypro and blast everything through. In our program we change chemicals quite a bit, I can do a full decontamination now in about 45 mins compared to over 3 hours with our previous Goldacres.
Q: Any complaints?
About the only thing is the marking on the taps aren't so good. After a season of use the labels are nearly worn off and getting hard to see.
Q: What factors influenced your decision to purchase a Hayes?
We found that when looking for a sprayer the main features, such as big wheels and suspension were all standard features, whereas on a Hardi or Goldacres they were expensive options.
Q: Final Comments?
We can't speak highly enough of the Hayes, it makes everything so simple. When we brought it I actually came into the shop (Stoll's) pretty keen on a Hardi. It was when you first started selling Hayes, by the time i went home we had decided on a Hayes! We'd be more than happy to highly recommend them to anyone who asked us. You'll see a heap of these sprayers once people get to know them a bit.
