Stoll's Custom - Leighton Contractors No: 1

Late 2008 saw Stoll's get the nod from Leighton Contractors to custom design and build a sprayer for spraying curing compond and different products on concrete pavement as they are building new highways. This unit was quite challanging as it involved a single sided 14.5m boom that had to hydraulically fold up inside the vehicles tray width. Being a single sided boom, careful consideration also had to be given to designing a counter weight system for when the boom was unfolded, in the working position.

The boom construction was a steel centre section and inner wing with aluminium outers to keep the weight down and featured two stage hydraulic fold to vary the spray width according to the slab width and also had the ability to angle the boom up or down hydraulically to compensate for the vehicle being above or below the slab and still maintain accurate spraying.

Another neat feature of this unit was the hydraulic 'squeeze centre' system whereby when operating the entire centre section extended sideways hydraulically into working position and when finished working and ready for travel the whole boom 'squeezed' in to give a narrower travel width.

The tank size on the unit was 2500lt and other features included a twin impellor pump that was set up to be able to not only spray, but also to self-fill out of 1000lt Pallecons.

We also fited the unit with full automatic rate control using the ever popular TeeJet 844e. The use of the rate controller not only keeps the application rate correct regardless of speed changes, but also allows Leighton's to record exactly how much product is being applied.
