Custom Built Forestry ATV Sprayer
Derek Wilson's foresty sprayer built by Stoll's in July '07 caused just as many
looks and comments as the 50m Hayes Sprayer that we had in yard! Derek sprays
blue gum forests in far North Queensland around Rockhampton, Mackay and
Prosepine and operates in extremely wet, rough and steep terrain.
The bike he chose for the job was an 800cc CAN-AM Outlander that is built tough and added a set of tracks that he imported from America.
Derek chose us to custom build the spray rig for him and gave us the following brief: Build it as strong as you can while trying to keep the weight down as much as possible, a 400lt tank and a 200lt tank with separate plumbing systems, a TeeJet 844e automatic rate controller for the 400lt tank, a 20" of ground clearance, no axles, sprung suspension, a 3m fully shrouded boom, a treg hitch and get it built ASAP as it has to head up to Far North Queensland to work! We then set to work to draw the plans up on a CAD system and it drawn and fabricated in 2 days which was a pretty fair effort!
The unit sprays two chemicals at once - the 400lt tank is used for spraying chemicals between the tree rows via the 3m shrouded booms, while chemical from the 200lt tanks is applied over the rows through two off centre nozzles mounted on each end of the shroud.
We were really happy with the way the sprayer turned out, and Derek was wrapped with it - heading up North straight away to put it to work the day he picked it up!
